چکیده

The most common hematological malignant diseases of the childhood are acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Minimal residual disease is gaining importance nowadays both for therapy efficacy follow up and relapse risk estimation. Owing to fast technological developments, minimal residual disease (MRD) can be evaluated both by molecular and flow cytometric methods, precisely. This review focuses on flow cytometry methodology and its contributions to MRD detection as well as advantages and disadvantages of flow

The role of microRNA in acute/chronic, myeloid/lymphocytic leukemia

MicroRNAs are small, non-coding sequences that regulate gene expression by inducing degradation or translational inhibition of target mRNAs. These molecules control many intracellular physiological and pathological processes.Abnormal expression of these moleculs has been described in different cancers including hematopoietic cancers. According to the type of cancer and the stage, miRNA’s expres...

The reliability and specificity of c-kit for the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemias and undifferentiated leukemias. The European Group for the Immunological Classification of Leukemias (EGIL).

We document findings on c-kit (CD117) expression in 1,937 pediatric and adult de novo acute leukemia cases, diagnosed in five single European centers. All cases were well characterized as to the morphologic, cytochemical, and immunologic features, according to the European Group for the Immunological Classification of Leukemias (EGIL). The cases included 1,103 acute myeloid leukemia (AML), 819 ...

Immune Issues and Mechanisms in Cancer

The immunologic defense mechanism is well demontrated in neoplasia of animals and human. Spontaneous regression of many human tumors such as malignant melanomas, 1vmphosarcomas, neuroblastomas choriocarcinomas, adenocarcinomas and leukemias is due to the defense mechanism of lymphoretrcular system. The discovery of carcinoembrvonicantigen in carcinoma of gastrointestinal tract and the alpha-f...

Interest in Determining the CD34+ CD38− Phenotype in the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Acute Leukemia in Abidjan – Côte d’Ivoire

BACKGROUND In Côte d'Ivoire, acute leukemias account for 12.5% of hematological malignancies. Acute leukemias are due to an anomaly of the stem cell characterized among other things by the expression of CD34(+) CD38(-) surface markers. This CD34(+) CD38(-) phenotype as well as other factors such as tumor syndrome, high leukocytosis and blasts are considered as important factors of poor prognosi...

Diagnosis of biphenotypic acute leukemia: a paradigmatic approach.

Biphenotypic acute leukemia (BAL), or acute leukemia with a single population of blasts coexpressing markers of two different lineages, is a rare clinical entity. To define BAL, a scoring system was proposed by the European Group of Immunological Markers for Leukemias (EGIL) in 1995. However, increasing evidence suggests that this system has limitations, as acknowledged by the 2008 World Health...
